Abstract

The approach of institutional isomorphism indicates that companies, in their organizational fields, take measures to homogenization of their actions, so that they can be accepted and legitimized by society. In this case, the disclosure of the Social Balance Sheet represent an isomorphism mimetic, when the companies tend to copy the procedure for the other, seeking to be accepted by society. This study found, through empirical research involving all Brazilian companies with shares listed on the Bovespa, from data obtained from the Economática, if the ROE - Return on Equity of the companies that published the Social Balance Sheet are the same or different than companies do not published. The results indicated that the variation in average return on equity between companies that published and not published the Social Balance Sheet can be the result of the accident, pointing out that the companies that published the Social Balance Sheet not have returns higher or lower than companies do not published, ratifying the approach of institutional theory, to which the decisions to publish the Social Balance Sheet could be related to the isomorphism mimetic, without which there is a direct relationship of greater efficiency or return value for the shareholder.
